Research opportunity

Notice:

We wish to commission a consultant to conduct a scoping and feasibility study to inform the development of a new Dundee service.

We anticipate our Young People’s Sensory Service (YPSS) in Dundee will offer new opportunities to children and young people with sensory loss, for them to develop in confidence, have fun and overcome challenges in a safe, supportive environment within their community. You should have a research background and be self-directed, reporting your progress on a monthly basis. We also require a final report into your study, recommending a viable model for a sustainable new service. As you will be communicating directly with children and young people, we will require you to join the PVG scheme and undergo a disclosure of criminal records check.

Informal enquiries can be made to Adam Hillhouse, Head of Enterprise on the number below.

Closing date:  7th January 2022

Brief:

North East Sensory Services (NESS) supports around 6,500 sensory impaired people of all ages, their families and carers across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus and Dundee.  We know that there are approximately 120 visually impaired and 125 deaf / hard of hearing children and young people known to Dundee Children’s Services. We are considering developing a Young People’s Sensory Service (YPSS) in Dundee which will offer opportunities for them to develop confidence, have fun and overcome challenges in a safe, supportive environment within their community.

We wish to commission a consultant to conduct a scoping study on our behalf to inform the development of this new service.

You should have a research background and be self-directed, reporting your progress on a monthly basis. Our planned Outputs for this scoping study are:

  • Identify existing (if any) provision for sensory impaired children and young people in Dundee;
  • Summarise quantitative / qualitative feedback from questionnaires / focus groups;
  • Report on needs of sensory impaired children and young people, their families and carers in Dundee;
  • Recommend a service delivery model for a YPSS in Dundee.

Following analysis of the study findings, we will develop an appropriate service delivery model, taking into account your recommendations, designed to meet the identified needs and wants of the local children and young people, their families and carers.

Expressions of interest, in 1000 words or less, by 7th January, should include a summary of how you propose to meet the project outcomes, including your availability over the next six to eight months and an indication of your costings.

A more detailed brief will be sent to shortlisted candidates.
