Practical and Emotional Support

Employment support is available to blind and/or deaf people living in Aberdeen City, Dundee City, and those living in Angus who can travel to Dundee.

Our specialist, tailored service can support you to find or sustain your employment, education, volunteer or training opportunity through:

  • Providing continued support, advice, guidance and signposting
  • Supporting you to develop skills to search and apply for jobs including interview skills and online applications
  • Liaising with your employer, education or training providers
  • Supporting you to apply for funding for adaptations and equipment to assist you in the workplace
  • Supporting employers to address issues that may arise when employing someone with a sensory loss.

The Impact

Our Employment Officer takes the time to work with each individual, to identify their specific needs and agree how we can support them to achieve their goals.  Some are ready to work and only require a little guidance.  Others may have been away from the job market for some time and benefit from more intensive training or work experience to build confidence and skills.  We therefore provide a comprehensive and individualised package of one-to-one support with no “cut off” point in terms of individuals’ contact with the service; we seek to remain accessible to people on an ongoing basis as their needs evolve.

“Thank you so much for all your help and support these past few weeks. We really have appreciated your help and knowing we had you on our side made such a difference too.” ‘Derek’, who works offshore, is staying in employment due to the support he got here.

“People tell me that they like coming here because they get the help they need on a one to one basis and are not just left to get on with it.” Janice Gray – NESS Employment Officer

We are extremely grateful to all the funders who make this service delivery possible
