Joint letter from North East Sensory Services (NESS) and Health & Social Care Moray (HSCM)

Dear NESS service user,

We are writing jointly to let you know about an upcoming change to the way sensory support services are managed and delivered in Moray.

From 1 April 2026, Health & Social Care Moray (HSCM) will take on direct responsibility for providing the sensory support service that is currently delivered by North East Sensory Services (NESS).

HSCM is the integrated partnership of Moray Council and NHS Grampian which is responsible for community health, care and justice service for children, families, and adults in Moray.

We recognise that change can feel uncertain and are making every effort to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible. Please be reassured that high-quality information, advice, and support for people with sensory loss will remain available locally.

Delivering the service internally offers HSCM opportunities to maintain and develop specialist expertise and to integrate sensory support more effectively with health and social care services, including Occupational Therapy, as part of a sustainable model of provision.

HSCM and NESS are working closely together to plan and manage the transition and will keep people who access the services and their families, staff, and partners informed and supported along the way.

As part of this transition, staff currently delivering the Moray service with NESS will have the right to transfer to Moray Council (which employs staff on behalf of HSCM) under TUPE regulations, meaning their existing employment terms and conditions will be protected. This will help ensure consistency and familiarity for you.

Under its charitable work, NESS has developed social groups and services that promote inclusion and reduce isolation for people with sensory loss in Moray, and it remains committed to supporting these. HSCM looks forward to continuing to work in partnership with NESS to support the local community.

Both HSCM and Moray Integration Joint Board – its governing body – sincerely thank NESS for its outstanding contribution and for the expertise and commitment of its staff, which have had a lasting, positive impact on the lives of so many people.
