Can you Volunteer in Angus and Dundee?

NESS is looking for volunteers to organise social group activities and provide travel support to people with sensory impairments in Angus and Dundee. If you’re looking for something meaningful to do and enjoy the company of others, then this could be a wonderful opportunity for you. We have opportunities in the following volunteer roles: 1:1 Befrienders, Social Group Volunteers and Volunteer Drivers. Training, support and out of pocket expenses will be provided. Volunteers must be willing to complete a PVG check.
Our social groups meet once a month in Forfar, Kirriemuir, Arbroath, Brechin, Dundee and Broughty Ferry, and enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities. Our recent group visits have included House of Dun, Glamis Castle, Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre and Dundee Botanical Garden, while we have planned visits to Dundee Verdant Works, Kirriemuir Tayside Police Museum and Peter Pan Park. The groups have also enjoyed indoor activity sessions such as Visually Impaired Rugby, Body Booster Bingo and Falls Prevention.

“I used to visit gardens and farm shops with my husband. He passed away and then I lost my eyesight, which made it impossible for me to visit these places. I am glad I could visit these places again with the social group and I really enjoy the trips.” (Social group member).

“I never feel that I am performing a volunteer role, I always feel that I am meeting my friends.” (Social group volunteer).

The groups usually meet on the following days:

• Arbroath Eyes and Ears – first Monday of every month
• Brechin Sensory Group – first Tuesday of every month
• Broughty Ferry Sensory Group – second Tuesday of every month
• Dundee Sensory Group – last Monday of every month
• Forfar Sensory Group – third Wednesday of every month
• Kirriemuir Sensory Group – first Wednesday of every month
